Integrated Care

This is the ONLY award bearing course in the Germany that is specifically designed to help you develop specialist skills in the osteopathic care of older adults (over 65 yrs), enabling you to enhance your scope of practice. 

This one year course will equip practising osteopaths, physiotherapists and chiropractors with contemporary, evidence-informed knowledge, practical and clinical skills in the specialist area of advanced osteopathic management of older adults. The course questions and challenges students’ individual professional beliefs and values whilst critically appraising the plausibility of contemporary and established models of osteopathic care for the elderly.

Entry requirements

Recognised osteopathy, chiropractic or physiotherapy qualification
Demonstrable interest in developing specialist skills in the osteopathic care of older adults
The ability to commit to part-time study

Key teaching areas

Learn topics such as the biology of ageing, risk assessment, critical incidents involving older patients, innovative and collaborative approaches to the management of common conditions that affect the elderly and the effects of polypharmacy.
Learn patient-centred and comprehensive evaluation and management strategies of older adults, particularly the impact of complex co-morbidities and their effects on prognosis.
Learn about psychological, emotional and social factors in the assessment of older patients as well as the latest developments in the role of exercise and nutrition in the management of older patients.
Learn concepts of safeguarding supported by effective communication and team working.
Learn to critically appraise plausibility of contemporary and established models of osteopathic care for the elderly.

The course will encourage students to establish links with local practitioners (to their practice) that manage and treat older adults.

Educators on this course will be specialists in their field from diverse and relevant disciplines in the assessment and management of older adults. Our innovative and exciting award-bearing course offers opportunities for both experienced and recently graduated practitioners.  

 

Course Structure

Assessments will be in the form of written course work.

The course comprises of two 30 credit units. We aim to have 4 to 5 contact days at the weekend per unit (over 6 months) with an induction day at the start of the course.  

This course is subject to approval and is provisionally set to start in September 2016.
